It was so fun!Gypsys Melting Pot gives a recipe for the dough that I’m sure is delicious, but I’m a lazy chef, so I just bought Pillsbury Simply Rustic French Bread Dough instead. Christmas Crafts in Santa’s Home Workshop
It is that time of year again. The children are getting restless with excitement and you probably have a long list of names to find presents for still. Where to begin? You have to think of things to send to distant relatives, that is, relatives who are both distant in relation and live far away. Finding the perfect gift for them is tricky not only because shipping can be so expensive. Small handmade ornaments offer the best solution. They can be small, light-weight and non-breakable, … [Read more...]

Cute Thanksgiving Treat!
My preschooler and her classmates take turns bringing the snack to school. She just happened to be assigned the last day before Thanksgiving break, so we decided to make something festive. Now, normally we take something healthy- so don't judge me!! I saw several versions of this treat, but decided the others were more intensive than necessary (drawing with icing, etc) and they all added more cookies and candy while using frosting as the "glue". I just can't feed my kids that much sugar!! And I … [Read more...]
Volunteering at the Equine Rescue
I was talking to my friend, Rose, on Friday and she mentioned that she volunteers at a Horse Rescue. My daughters absolutely LOVE horses, but have never really had the opportunity to be around them. I asked if she would mind us tagging along with her and off we went! I had no idea there was a place like this in our area! It is called Hope in the Valley: Equine Rescue and Sanctuary- click here for the website.Rose's kids were so sweet and patient with my girls- I was really impressed! They … [Read more...]
How To Keep Kids Entertained in the Car
Keeping the kids out of trouble when you have to drive can be difficult and a bit of a juggling act if you have several kids in the car. Children can get cranky and bored, and don’t always understand the importance of paying attention to the road. The best step to take is ensure that they are properly entertained in the backseat, whether you’re popping to the shops or going on a long trip. Below are four things to keep in mind which ought to keep them occupied:1: Atlas Whether a print or … [Read more...]

I should buy stock in Tylenol…
So my little 4 year old decided it might be fun to swing from a rope…with her teeth…All I know is she’s handing me a tooth-root and all- and telling me through a mouth full of blood that she thinks she might die. She’s my crazy one; we’ve done stitches 4 times already in her little life! At least she was clear headed enough to bring it to me! Good job baby! And I knew enough to drop it in a cup of milk! Way to go Mom! Can you imagine having a tooth extracted without any … [Read more...]
Ghostly Halloween Tree
My girls have been asking to do a craft, and since I’m starting to put Halloween décor everywhere, it’s getting me in the mood for some spooky crafting! I decided to take a page from the Easter crafts we did and just make it Halloween-ish. While the kiddos were at school, I found a gnarly branch in the front yard, spray painted it black and stuck it in a pot on the front porch. When the girls came home from school, I had our stuff ready: a box of tissues, yarn (you could always use ribbon- … [Read more...]

Watermelon!
It's amazing how a silly cousin and an episode of Curious George can get a girl's imagination running... It all started when my crazy nephew threw a watermelon on Grandma's patio. My 6 year old daughter grabbed up some of the watermelon seeds and with the help of her memories of Curious George, proceeded to make her own greenhouse (out of a paper plate, paper towel, water and ziplock bag) in which the seeds would sprout.A week later, they sprouted and we carefully planted them in … [Read more...]
Fun at the Lake!
One of our favorite places this summer has been the lake. We go out and swim, barbeque and eat watermelon! We’ve gone with my sister and her kids and we’ve gone with Grandma and Grandpa. Their Uncle has also taken them a couple of times with their cousins. We like to go during the week when it isn’t crowded and we have the beach to ourselves. We also have our pick of grills and picnic tables. At our favorite lake, … [Read more...]
Creating a Cardboard Castle
For whatever reason, there is something about castles that is truly compelling. They are the ultimate setting for imaginative play. Whether your child likes horses, knights or princesses, all of these things can find their home in a castle. Imagination can supply the stories and even the castle if necessary but having a castle looking structure around is simply fun. Building a castle out of cardboard is an easy and fun way to get involved in a project with your children as well as … [Read more...]
