For some people, the song “I’ll be home for Christmas,” is a bright and warm reminder of all the fond memories of the Christmas season. For others, family is a blatant reminder of the annual conflict session that arises between family members when visiting around the Christmas season. Familiar patterns of conflict can arise when deciding where the family is going to spend the night, how long you decide to stay or not to stay, and a number of other issues. Conflict with family sometimes is … [Read more...]

Cute Thanksgiving Treat!
My preschooler and her classmates take turns bringing the snack to school. She just happened to be assigned the last day before Thanksgiving break, so we decided to make something festive. Now, normally we take something healthy- so don't judge me!! I saw several versions of this treat, but decided the others were more intensive than necessary (drawing with icing, etc) and they all added more cookies and candy while using frosting as the "glue". I just can't feed my kids that much sugar!! And I … [Read more...]

Ghostly Halloween Tree
My girls have been asking to do a craft, and since I’m starting to put Halloween décor everywhere, it’s getting me in the mood for some spooky crafting! I decided to take a page from the Easter crafts we did and just make it Halloween-ish. While the kiddos were at school, I found a gnarly branch in the front yard, spray painted it black and stuck it in a pot on the front porch. When the girls came home from school, I had our stuff ready: a box of tissues, yarn (you could always use ribbon- … [Read more...]

The Benefits Your Kids Get From Recreation
Every child loves to play in his or her own way, and very often that natural tendency leads them to sports and organized recreation. There may seem nothing quite so quaint and innocent as a handful of kids tossing the ball around after school, but the real benefits of athletic activity are undeniable. In this age of 24-hour entertainment, ubiquitous cell phones, and handheld gadgets with constant connectivity, the need for that “old-fashioned” exercise is all the more acute.Organized … [Read more...]
Why Superheros Should Be Accepted as Role Models
In a world that is cruel and judgmental it’s important for kids to have solid role models that they can look up to. While some kids envy firefighters and doctors some look up to today’s superheroes. Yes, you read that correctly I said superheroes. Think about it, who’s typically criticized (even in a fictitious world) more than superheroes? They are judged by their looks, actions, and even their intentions. Looking closer at each of these three you will hopefully understand at the end of this … [Read more...]
