Since Halloween is approaching and fall is in the air I decided to make some festive treats! I used a box cake mix. I poured half of the batter in a circle cake pan to make a spiderweb cake and the rest into cupcake papers so I could make individual spooky cupcakes.I happened to have everything I needed right at home.1 Cake Mix Cupcake Papers 2 Tubs of Frosting one Chocolate, one White (my white was already shaded green from the Snake Cake) Tubes of Decorative … [Read more...]
Easter is More Fun With Specialty Cakes
Disclosure: I received a free product sample for review purposes. All experiences and opinions are my own. Yours may differ. I love holidays! Really any holiday. Holidays are fun because they usually have family traditions that everyone looks forward too (or not!) plus they usually involve fun food and that you only eat on special occasions! Easter is a fun holiday all by itself with hunting for candy and eating a delicious ham, but what if you also add in a specialty cake to … [Read more...]
Watermelon Cupcakes and Frosting Exclusively at Target
Disclosure: The information and prize pack have been provided by General Mills through Platefull Co-Op.Warmer weather is coming (gasp!) It's hard to believe but it is true. With warmer weather comes a desire to eat different foods. For example, cooking on the grill is a lot more common, at our house we start to chug corn salsa (I'm not sure why this seems to be more of a summer food for us) and then there is delicious, ripe watermelon. This gets eaten by the bucket load it seems in … [Read more...]
Dragon Birthday Cake!
Last year I made my oldest daughter a dragon cake, and this year, my youngest daughter wanted a dragon cake. I have used box mixes in the past, and they were fine, but this year I looked up a yellow cake recipe from Martha Stewart. It is still a bit crumby when I tried to ice it, but it was fine. Next time, I’ll try to find a different cake mix; one that doesn’t fall to crumbs when you cut it! I’m just not that skilled yet! I used a butter cream icing recipe from … [Read more...]

Topping a Cake
Last week as a was making a chocolate cake it occurred to me that the way we eat cake is probably different than most people. I thought that I would share what we do, in case you wanted to try something different. I am not a big frosting person. I like it on some things, but not chocolate cake, plus I don't love the mess it makes with the kids. So when we eat chocolate cake I sprinkle the cake with a little bit of sugar. It makes it not so dry or boring to eat! We love it! You can also try … [Read more...]
