Traditions in the Kitchen

Traditions-Kitchen
It seems to me that food and family traditions go hand in hand. Holiday’s tend to have traditional food that may vary from family to family but the food makes it feel like home. Birthday’s have certain traditions that more than likely involve food as well. For us, we let our kids choose what they want for their birthday dinner and what shape of birthday cake they want.

What about the day-to-day? Growing up every Sunday we had the same meal. My Mom would make a Pot Roast, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, rolls and Jello. Sunday evenings we would make homemade ice cream. Sunday was a family day filled with tradition.

During the week we even had snacks, that now as an adult, remind me of home. I am the caboose in my family. As the baby of 7 with many, many years between me and the next child, my siblings played a role in raising me. My sister’s would eat fried cheese (cheese slices placed on a glass plate, cooked in the microwave) as a snack and so I wanted it also. They would make it for me as I was too small to handle a knife to cut some cheese slices or too young to work the microwave. I have no idea how this snack came to be but I loved it!

Preparing-Fried-Cheese

Now as the Mother of 3 little cheese lovers I can prepare this same snack for my kids in our GE microwave.
