#SlimFastChallenge Results and Details

January 19, 2014 By Stefanie

Disclosure: I received compensation and product to assist in the 14 day Slim Fast Challenge. All experiences and opinions are my own. Yours may differ.

Slim=Fast-Challenge

You might be a little disappoint in my results post. Let me explain a few things first. When I received the package filled with Slim Fast products I didn’t receive details on how the program worked. I first received 16 Slim Fast meal replacement shakes and 16 snack bars. It turns out I was supposed receive 16 meal replacement bars as well so several days into the challenge the bars showed up. I tried one but did not care for it, so I figured I would stick to the shakes and snacks.

An interesting thing happened a few days ago. I heard a radio commercial all about the Slim Fast 14 Challenge that explained more to me about what I was supposed to be doing than I had been told as participating in the program. In that commercial I learned that you are supposed to

  • Replace 2 meals a day with the shakes and bars
  • exercise 30 minutes a day
  • eat a 1200 calorie a day diet

All of that would have been useful to know in the beginning.

How did I work the program?

I replaced breakfast everyday with a shake. I would refrain from eating for a few hours. When I got hungry I would eat a snack bar and be satisfied for several more hours. I usually ended up having a very small lunch, or just a regular snack for lunch. I would then eat a normal dinner.

I don’t own a scale. I don’t like to obsess over my weight and so even when I was going to the gym regularly I would judge things based on how my clothes fit. The potential for this Slim Fast Challenge is to lose up to 6 pounds in the 2 weeks. I don’t know that I would notice that difference in my clothes. I don’t notice it currently in my clothes.

I do know that I kept the same amount of energy as I had when eating my normal breakfast. At first the shakes had a weird after taste to me, but I got used to it and now I like them. The snacks were always yummy to me.

A benefit that I did get from participating in the program is that I was more mindful of what I was eating. I paid more attention to my stomach and feelings of being hungry or not hungry. I missed the action of chewing and enjoying food when drinking the shakes, so I would chew on gum. I wasn’t hungry, in fact the shakes kept me full for at least 2 hours, but I like chewing, I like food, so gum helped with that.

    I think it’s great the shakes keep you full! That would be a great option for me as I often don’t have time to stop and eat breakfast.

    I haven’t tried Slim Fast in years. I think I read somewhere 10 lbs is a dress size? Being more mindful of what I eat would be probably be a great thing for me . Thanks for the information.

    I think becoming more aware of actually being hungry and only eating when you’re hungry is a definite benefit. Also realizing that you like chewing and resolving that issue through gum instead of food was a good fix. Sounds like your Slim Fast challenge was an overall success!
