Tips-Pool-Party
Children love pool parties and are a great way to keep children active during the winter months. Local leisure centres or private sport centres will often rent out their facilities for an hour or so for group parties. Before planning the next pool party for your kids, here are a few helpful hints to keep in mind:

1. Safety First and Foremost
You will be responsible for the safety of the children at your pool party. If the party will consist of a large number of children, one major tip is to appoint the help of several adults to help provide a watchful eye and chaperone the children if any child needs to use the bathroom. Be sure you establish the ground rules before the party begins to ensure all the guests have fun, yet safe time. Some rules to consider include:
• no jumping on other people in the water
• no diving into the pool
• no holding people under or dunking
• no running or pushing near the pool’s edge

2. Plan for Activities Beforehand
Plan games and activities before the party to ensure all guests have fun throughout the event. The planned games and activities will assist with the monitoring your party guests to ensure that they are not running around unsupervised.
So games and activities to consider: pool volleyball, the classic “Marco Polo”, or “Mermaids and Sharks”. While a good game plan can ensure a fun party, be sure to also allow the kids to also enjoy free swim time and their own creative play.

3. Provide Healthy Snacks
Filling up with heavy desserts, crisps, sweets and soft drinks is not a comfortable feeling. Keep in mind that you guests will be doing a lot of swimming. Instead, try serving healthy, lightweight, options: well-chosen desserts and munchies but also provide bottled water, fruit, popcorn, pretzels or cheese-plates.

4. Have Extra Supplies on Hand
Be sure to have extra towels, swimming gear, sunscreen and flip-flops on-hand, to provide for guests who may have forgotten their own gear. There’s no need to go out and purchase anything beyond your budget – instead, look around your own home or ask others for any extra supplies.
