Since it’s invention in 1908, paper filters are the most common and best way to brew coffee. They do the most thorough job in removing particulates and thus effectively traps bitter sediments for a smoother richer cup of coffee. In addition, paper filters allow you to use any type of grind while permanent filters require courser grinds. Finer grind coffees have a larger surface area exposed to the water so it provides a richer cup of coffee. Permanent filters also transfer foreign tastes and odors to your coffee.

I actually use both, I will use K-cups if they are on sale and I can get a really good deal, but other times I use a re-usable filter with regular coffee. I really love pumpkin spice k-cups.

I do not have that type of coffee maker yet but I would only use the refillable cups as I abhor the waste of the disposables.
