Big Hero 6 Bonus Content + FEAST Short

Big Hero 6 is seriously my new favorite Disney movie. I actually didn’t want to see it in the beginning because I didn’t think it looked very good, but once I watched it, I was in love. It is such a beautiful story with real emotions I could really relate to.

On the Blu-ray combo pack, which comes out February 24, there are a lot of great bonus features!

  • The Origin of the Story of Big Hero 6: Hiro’s Journey
  • Big Hero Secrets (find the Easter eggs!)
  • Big Animator 6: The Characters Behind the Characters
  • Deleted Scenes
  • FEAST Theaterical Short

I love watching all the behind the scenes stuff, especially on a movie where I have interviewed the directors, main characters, the huggable robot and Patrick Osborne – the director of the short FEAST.

The short FEAST is the story of a man’s love life as seen through the eyes of his best friend and dog Winston, told through the meals of his life. It’s a pretty clever idea, I think.

It was so interesting to sit down to the presentation about FEAST with the director Patrick Osborne. What a complicated process to make a short. It was so interesting talking about how he got on the project. He was animating for Big Hero 6 at the time, but once a year pitches are welcome from any employee – finance, accounting, the janitor, so he decided to take advantage of this opportunity.

So he can to come up with 3 ideas to pitch, FEAST was one of them. He had an idea of telling the list story of a family through meals. He had taken his own video of his dinners over a 3 month period and that inspired the idea. He drew a table of food and liked it but there was some negative space he needed to fill. He put a puppy in there and it just seemed to fit and FEAST was born.

Later he found an old sketch book and it turns out he had had this idea 3 years ago. He said something really interesting- if something is interesting at one point and you find yourself having that idea again, then is probably something there.

My favorite parts of the presentation was learning all the fun secret things Patrick and his team included in the short such as his wife’s wedding dress and the wedding as a whole was basically what his wedding looked like. They also spent several days with different kinds of dogs playing with them, learning their movements and mannerisms. Patrick played a fun clip of those days and all the playing that was going on.

FEAST is a darling short that can be found on the Big Hero 6 blu-ray combo pack coming to stores February 24!

Stefanie, I have to tell you that I was in the same boat! I really didn’t want to see Big Hero 6 at all! Then, during our Disney cruise, one of our shore days was cancelled due to weather, and the cruise director set up extra entertainment that included extra showings of Big Hero 6. My son dragged me to the theater to watch it, and it was such a cool movie!
