A family trip to a waterpark can be so much fun, but also has potential for disaster. If you take the time before you leave to get prepared, you should have a successfully fun trip that creates wonderful family memories. Here are some tips for being being prepare so you can survive the park!
- Bring Swim Shoes or Flip Flops. It’s summer which means HOT. The pavement is going to be HOT so come prepared with proper footwear. Flip flops or swim shoes are a good option because both can handle getting wet. Wearing these shoes while walking around is also a good option to help decrease your likelihood of getting a stubbed toe. OUCH!
- Apply Sunscreen. SPF 30 or higher should be applied 15 minutes BEFORE going outdoors. Most people do not apply enough sunscreen to their bodies. The general rule of thumb is one ounce or “enough to fill a shot glass.” This is recommended by dermatologists as the proper amount to cover the exposed areas of your body. Sunscreen should be applied every two hours if you aren’t swimming, so since you will be at a waterpark I would apply more often. The slides especially might take the sunscreen off so perhaps a regiment of apply, ride, repeat should be enforced at the waterpark.
- Pack a Lunch and Snacks. Nothing with make you more hungry than spending a day in the sun swimming. Make sure you have enough food for lunch and snacks. Being hungry is a fun ruiner so be prepared with lots of food. You can also visit the parks snack bar if you want to try some of their yummy treats.
- Pack Extra Water. The sun and heat will be causing you to sweat, so you will be losing water. Pack lots and lots of water. You don’t want to get dehydrated so be sure to be prepared with liquids. Sodas and juice might be fun to have, but only water will help you stay hydrated.
- First Aid Kit. We carry a little first aid kit in our car that includes bandaids, Neosporin, tylenol, hand sanitizer, sunscreen and wet wipes. When we go inside a waterpark or a theme park we try to remember to bring this little pack with us. Most waterparks will have a first aid station and be able to help you in case of an emergency or injury, but for little scrapes or perhaps a headache it is nice to be able to take care of yourself.
By taking a few minutes to gather a few essentials, you can avoid disaster and have a fun day at the waterpark!
