New 5th Edition: What to Expect When You’re Expecting

September 9, 2016 By Stefanie

Eleven years ago when I was pregnant with my first child, someone wisely gave me the book “What to Expect When You’re Expecting.” I found that I really relied on this book for answers to questions I had and questions I didn’t know I had. As a first time pregnant woman I wouldn’t remember all of my concerns when I was at a doctor appointment so this was a fantastic resource for me at home. Now eleven years later and pregnant with baby number four, I still have questions and concerns and the new updated 5th Edition of “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” is still helping me tremendously.

Some of the things about this updated version that I love are that it weaves Dad in throughout the book. My husband is very hands on, and has questions of his own. The book is also a wonderful tool for him.

It also has information about relevant concerns such as Zika Virus. I never thought something like worrying about Zika would be apart of my life let alone pregnancy but since we traveled to the Caribbean a month before I got pregnant I will now have special screenings and ultrasounds to track the growth of my baby because of it. I’m so glad the book addresses some of these concerns for me as well as travel advice.

Since it has been almost four years since I had a baby I find that I really enjoy going through the book chapter by chapter and reading the information and questions presented just because I need a refresher. This has been great to remind me of what foods I can and cannot eat, what medicine is safe, what tests will be done and when during pregnancy, what birth is like and how to prepare for that and the hospital stay, breastfeeding and baby blues. Plus so much more on all the topics you can imagine. It is also a great way for me to make a list of concerns or questions I want to take to my next doctor appointment.

Though this isn’t my first rodeo, but I feel a little nervous like it is the first time. I really love this new and updated go-to reference for all things baby and pregnancy. I highly recommend the 5th Edition “What To Expect When You’re Expecting” if it is for yourself or as a gift to someone you know who is expecting.

Did you use What to Expect When You’re Expecting when you were having a baby? I’d love to hear you experience with the book.
