The BEST Rolls Ever!

The Artisan Bread Machine: 250 Recipes for Breads, Rolls, Flatbreads and PizzasIn Kansas there was a lady that was pretty much more amazing than even Martha Stewart herself! Wow, I know right? She decided to have a bread making class at her house to help anyone who might be struggling with the art of making bread. Now yeast and I DO NOT get along! I have never been successful making bread, or making yeast do it’s thing! I unfortunately was unable to attend this class, but I did get the recipe from a friend that went. When she brought the recipe over she said to me “You seriously have to make these rolls they are the best rolls ever, and even you can’t screw this up!” Thanks! That was a self esteem booster. So after a week or so of contemplating how I shouldn’t make the rolls because it would be a waste of all the ingredients because they would surely be ruined, I decided to try them. I should have looked over the recipe when I first got it because the way it is all laid out, seriously I couldn’t have screwed it up! So I will share will all you lucky people this AMAZING recipe!This dough can be turned into Cinnamon Rolls, Dinner Rolls, Cresent Rolls (which is the way I mostly do it) and Beignets.

Cresent Rolls

2 cups hot water
1 stick butter
½ cup crisco

Combine is a large bowl and allow to soften.

2 Tablespoons yeast
½ cup  warm water
1 tsp. sugar

Proof yeast. Add to above mixture.

¾ cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. Baking powder
2 tsp salt

Add sugar, eggs, baking powder, and salt. Mix.

7 cups flour (approx)

Add flour starting with 4 cups. Mix until dough is smooth, continue adding flour until you have a soft, but not sticky dough. Do Not Knead!

 

Allow dough to rise 2-4 hours. Punch Down.

Roll dough into rectangle.

Spread with melted butter.

Cut in triangles and roll up, starting with wide end.

Lay on parchment or a lightly greased baking sheet.*

Allow to rise 1 ½ hours or until doubled.

Bake 12-15 minutes at 400 degree. Brush tops with butter if desired.

* At this point your rolls may be frozen for future use. Just be sure that they are covered to avoid freezer burn. Approximately 4 hours before you want to bake them remove from freezer and allow to rise. Bake as directed.

 

Making any form of bread is something that definitely goes with the theme of my blog and the purpose of my blog… it makes me feel like a real mom. I haven’t made a loaf of bread yet, out of fear, but I hope to conquer that some time this year. I think I will definitely be making rolls more often though.

I love my kids eating bread that I made and they can’t get enough of it! Next I want to learn how to make raspberry jam! There is nothing better than a homemade warm cresent rolls with homemade raspberry jam! YUMMY! This recipe makes about 4 dozen (at least of my odd ball sized rolls) so last night I baked 1 dozen and then froze the rest. I will take out some here and there when we are in the mood for a yummy snack or when I need them for dinner.     I’m interested in the cinammon rolls…other question what’s 2 T? Is that tablespoons? In the 2nd half of the ingredients. The same part you have 1/2 of water. I know that is a cup but it could be 1/2 tsp or tbls. I haven’t played with yeast but have wanted to so don’t know how much could be to much, so clarifing the ingredients. Thank you

    Great recipe! I agree that you just feel like a better wife/mom when baking something from scratch…little more rewarding than popping the refrigerated kind in the oven for 8 minutes! 😉 Thanks for dropping by my blog! I did the faux Roman shade because we actually didn’t need a functioning window covering in our mudroom, just something to add a touch of privacy and, of course, make it look pretty! Hope you found a solution for daughter’s room! Can’t wait to find out what you do!

    Stefanie,

    If you can do crescents you can do a loaf of bread…I’ve got some very easy, yummy recipes. Jam is pretty easy too. We do quite a bit from scratch – I just love being able to make something wonderful for my kids and hubby.
