Stock Up for Emergency Preparedness

April 13, 2016 By Stefanie

Thank you to SheSpeaks/Walmart for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own.

Stock-Up-Emergency-Preparedness
We are all about being prepared, including preparing for emergencies at our house. Our emergency preparedness supplies cover anything from big disasters to small things we just have to get through. We have been so grateful for our emergency supplies of food, toiletries, first aid supplies, detergent, soap, extra blankets, water and even treats. While we haven’t encountered a big disaster, there are times when money is tight so we need to get by with our stored food, or times when we need to help friends or neighbors and have been glad for the spare supplies.

We keep our storage in our basement. When we first moved into this house, what we refer to as our “storage room” didn’t have any shelves so my Father in Law was kind enough to build us a wall of shelves. We also found a couple metal shelves to place on another wall. This has been great as we have a dedicated part of our storage room for our food/supplies storage.

Now is a great time to stock up with supplies from Walmart. The April Stock Up & Save event is happening now. The event is full of top brands like Tide, Bounty, Pampers, Venus, Gillette, and more. When you stock up on these essentials there is a peace of mind knowing you have extra and won’t be running out of things soon. Plus, with this event there is an added savings! When you stock up, you can save even more by checking out rewards from P&G with the Ibotta app beginning April 11!

Stock-Up-Products
You can head to Walmart to purchase the participating Stock Up & Save products, or you can purchase them online (like I did!) at StockUpSave.com. Here are the participating items:

  • Bounty Select-A-Size 12-Pack Mega Roll
  • Tide 100 oz. Original HE Liquid Laundry Detergent
  • Pampers Swaddlers Huge Box
  • Head & Shoulders Dry Scalp Shampoo, 23.7 oz.
  • Head & Shoulders Dry Scalp Conditioner, 23.7 oz.
  • Febreze Air Effects Linen & Sky
  • Dawn Original 75 oz.
  • Gillette MACH3 Sensitive Disposable 3-Pack
  • Venus Sensitive Disposable 3-Pack
  • Gain 100 oz. Original Liquid Laundry Detergent
  • Charmin Ultra Strong 36 Double-Roll Pack
  • Crest Pro-Health Advanced Toothpaste

Storing-Water
Another way (that is really cheap) that we get and feel prepared for emergencies is by filling our empty milk containers with tap water. We don’t consider this water to be potable, but we keep it for washing things. Even in case of an emergency we will need to flush toilets, wash dishes, clothes and even ourselves. We do keep spare drinking water but I would hate to use that water on washing my hair. This is an easy and cheap solution so we feel extra prepared. Couple my stored water with my Gain 100 oz. Original Liquid Laundry Detergent from the Stock Up & Save event and my family’s clothes are ready to go!

Want a reminder to participate in this event? Here is a Facebook event reminder. You can also show off your Stock Up items and get social with other people stocking up by using the #StockUpSave hashtag on all social media!

What items do you want to stock up on? Do you already have some extra supplies? Let me know what I should be stocking up on!

I am always making sure that we have enough on hand for emergencies whenever they hit. I went to Walmart and stocked up last week on a lot of stuff as well!! Water is the biggest one for us to stock up on especially with wild fires here.

We live in tornado country, so I always try to be as prepared as you can be for emergency situations. Paper products, water and dish soap are items I always have stocked up just in case. Well, and personal hygeine products!

This post is a great reminder that you can truly never be too prepared. Since we have been having some crazy weather already this Spring in Chicago, it is important for me to have everything I need at home so I don’t have to go out in the elements with my boys. Thanks for the great reminder.

Great post! It is something that we don’t really think about until it happens.. We should always be prepared for emergency situations!

I stock up on paper towels and toilet paper. In my opinion, you can never have enough of those! This event looks great for getting squared away for spring.

Now that’s a wise thing to do. Always better to come prepared than be sorry.

So many wonderful stock up ideas! It’s so hard to stock up though with a bigger family/household, I’m hoping ot try again soon. I had a small stock of body wash, shampoos, etc… but my lovely 3 year old at the time decided it was great fun to pretend he was using the bathroom and dump them in the tub, toilet and sink…. wasted so many products!!!!

My husband and I are trying to be better prepared for an emergency. I like your tip about using old milk containers for things like washing. I’d love to get a good quality water container for drinking. Having something like this would be such a blessing during a disaster.

In a modern fire and rescue service, fighting fires is only part of the role. Greater emphasis is placed on our role within the community, with firefighters spending more time out in the community raising awareness, conducting home fire safety checks and communicating fire prevention and other safety messages.
