Did anyone else step out to see the meteor shower this weekend? We did! We got up at 5:15am on Sunday morning, threw on our sweatshirts over our jammies and drove out to the country to get away from the city lights. We took pillows and blankets (which we didn’t really need because it was a balmy 60F) and lay on the back of our car.
It was a PERFECT night! The sky was clearer than I have ever seen it before. My sister stepped out after feeding her newborn at 2am, and she said the same thing; we went camping a lot growing up, and we’ve never seen so many stars! Every star was crystal clear- it was gorgeous! I tried to take a picture, but I didn’t know how to make my camera manual enough to change the settings to what I needed. At this time of year it is really tiny, but with such a clear night, even the Little Dipper was super clear and easy to see!
I read that we should be looking South at the constellation Orion-hence the name Orionids. I didn’t know what Orion looked like, but all of the “shooting stars” we saw were in one little area in the sky, so that must have been him! We were only out there for about 30 minutes, but we saw 6 of them! My girls will never forget our little outing!Photo from National Geographic By Brad Goldpaint
