Meeting roommates, living in a new state, facing the challenges of college and not know many people made for some homesick nights. On those nights I would make a meal my Mom taught me how to prepare so that I could feel closer to home. Throughout my college years I even taught several of my roommates how to cool some of my families traditional meals.
The meal that was most important for me to learn to make, especially as I got engaged, then married and started my own family was our Sunday Pot Roast. Every Sunday after church we would have pot roast, mashed potatoes, corn, gravy and rolls. My Mom taught me all the spices and seasonings I need for the meal and now the tradition lives on in my home. Every Sunday my daughter comes in from church and takes a big smell and says “Mmmmm, dinner smells good Mom.” I love that! I love that I can continue to bring the taste of home I experienced as a child, to my children. Although I will admit that my Mom’s pot roast always tastes better than mine.
Knorr made this heart-felt (read: grab a tissue) video called “Flavor of Home.” I love this video as I can relate and see my own life in the events of the video. In the video Carmen leaves home for a career on the other side of the world. Of course she misses her family and her Mom’s cooking. Watch it for the fun surprise and love it as I did!
