Disclosure: I was invited on a trip to Branson, MO as part of the US Family Guides Blogger Network. All experiences and opinions are my own. Yours may differ.
My family was so excited to see Silver Dollar City on our #ExploreBranson itinerary. We had never been before but a lot of our friends would tell us how much fun it is.
Silver Dollar City started as a hole in ground. That hole was the Marvel Cave. The Herschend family wanted to provide something for the people waiting to tour the cave to do, so they created an 1880’s themed “town” around the cave. What they soon found was that the little town “shops” and exhibits were more popular than the cave. They had accidentally started an 1880’s theme park, so off they went with that idea.
Silver Dollar City is the most unique theme park we have ever been to. Growing up in Southern California there are a lot of theme parks, which my husband and I grew up visiting often. We have also traveled the world and visited theme parks along our way. Silver Dollar City is by far one of my favorites now that we have been.
I love the patriotic atmosphere, especially now during their Star-Spangled Summer Festival. Silver Dollar City has 7 different themed festivals throughout the year. With each of these festivals comes new food and shows around the park, so be sure to visit often so you can experience all the changes around the park.
I suggest when you are planning your visit to make a plan of attack. Since we had never been before, and we didn’t have a plan some time was wasted on figuring out what we wanted to do and where we wanted to go. Even though we spent most of a day there we were only able to scratch the surface of all Silver Dollar City has to offer. Definitely plan on buying the Season Pass (which is cheaper than 2 full day admissions) because it’ll take 2-3 days to see and do everything. We are already planning our return trip to Silver Dollar City. I’m thinking around Christmas when there are millions of lights decorating the park.
One of the must do rides on your list is the new Outlaw Run. This is the world’s first wood coaster to send riders upside down 3 times including a double barrel roll! CNN has dubbed Outlaw Run as one of the “12 biggest game changers in the history of theme park attractions.” HUGE!
Definitely plan on eating a meal or two at Silver Dollar City. The food is so good and there are lots of different kinds to find scattered around the park. We ate corn dogs, chicken, fries, a giant cookie, an amazing meal at The Mill Restaurant and tater twists. There are a lot of dining options with award-winning restaurants on the grounds! Get ready for some good eating!
My family and I totally recommend Silver Dollar City for your next trip to Branson. There was fun for everyone. With shows, demonstrations, rides, games and more, everyone will have a fantastic time. There is a nice section of the park that is full of rides perfect for your kids. Their height restrictions are very strict, so really little kids won’t get to ride anything, but my older two had a blast on the little roller coaster, flying elephants, whirling pirate ships, swings and more!
Check out the Silver Dollar City site for more information on tickets and dates to visit.
