OurPact Helps Parents Manage Screen Time

February 17, 2015 By Stefanie

There are screens galore at my house and everyone knows how to use them, even my two-year old and do his thing on a tablet without any help from me. Now I really don’t mind all the screens we have and I don’t mind my kids using them. The majority of the games on our tablets and phones are educational and we have some movies. The key to keeping Momma happy with the screens is by limited use.

My 5-year-old is the worst offender. He loves to watch toy review videos on YouTube, so I’ll tell him he can watch one video and then he needs to do something else. I’ll get distracted with work, other kids, making dinner or something and he’ll sit and watch until he gets caught! Now that I have OurPact on my iOS devices, his methods no longer work.

What is OurPact?

OurPact is an easy-to-use iOS application that helps guide our children’s mobile habits. Instead of my yelling at my kids to turn off the tablet or asking a million times, the app shuts it down for me. I simply create a profile for each child and input a schedule for their app use. OurPact allows apps and internet during the allotted time slots and blocks it during times my children should be doing other things. All of this is controlled from my own iOS device.

How do I get started?

Getting started is easy. OurPact is a free app so you can download it from the iTunes store. Once it is downloaded setting up your profiles is easy. Simply visit pair.ourpact.com in Safari from the iOS device you want to control and set up your children’s profiles. From there OurPact has a quick tutorial to explain how to set up profiles, set time limits and use the app. It’s very simple.

Beyond the schedule you set within the app you can easily allow access or block access with the click of a button. I know things come up and life happens and instead of altering your entire schedule just click to block or allow.

Schedule
I’m really excited for the day this is also on Android devices since that is the majority of screens at our house. I’m excited to have something to help me teach my kids about moderation and good habits of screen use. I also could use someone keeping me in check with my own screen use so I have times blocked for myself. Thanks to OurPact we are getting in the habit of times when it’s appropriate to use our devices and when to keep them off. Download OurPact now.
