We don’t usually buy frozen entrees because in our experiences they aren’t very good. There are times when I know I will be short for time, or if I will be away I’ll get some frozen meals because they are convenient, but it doesn’t happen often. I was recently presented with the opportunity to try Old El Paso’s frozen entrée line. I headed to the store with my different coupons and picked out four different “meals for two” to try out. I got
- Shredded Beef Burritos
- Steak Quesadillas
- Chicken Enchiladas
- Chicken Fajitas
Since I am feeding a family of 5 (one of them won’t eat anything but cheese quesadillas or peanut butter & jelly, so I didn’t worry about him) I prepared two of the meals for a dinner. I chose to make the Chicken Enchiladas and Steak Quesadillas. They were easy to prepare and ready in less than an hour.
I was really impressed with the different meals. First, the chicken enchiladas came with six enchiladas so that was nice. I felt like it would feed everyone that wanted to have some. They were actually really good. I usually don’t like red sauce but I liked it. I commented to my husband how good they were and that I would totally buy them again. My daughter thought they were too spicy, but my husband and I didn’t really notice any spice.
The steak quesadillas were ok. I didn’t like them as much as the enchilada, but I was really impressed with how much meat they included. I have had steak quesadillas from a restaurant that didn’t include as much meat as these quesadillas did so they are generous. The box comes with 4 quesadillas inside it, so I only cooked two and cut them in half. I thought those combined with the enchiladas would be plenty of food, in addition to the salad I served. It was enough food. We didn’t have any left overs, but everyone was satisfied.
One day for lunch my husband and I decided to cook the chicken fajitas. I just poured the frozen contents into a frying pan and sautéed the veggies and chicken until they were ready. We then added cheese and sour cream on top. The season on the fajitas was pretty good. We enjoyed it and ate all of it between the two of us.
It has been a lot of fun finding frozen food that is easy to prepare and delicious to eat! When I head on my Los Angeles trip in a week I will be getting a few of these dinners for my husband to make since they are easy!
Have you ever tried Old El Paso frozen meals? Which meal are you excited to try?
