Gifts for your Gamer Girl – Animal Crossing:New Leaf & Tomodachi Life

December 18, 2014 By Stefanie

Gamer-Girl-Games
Christmas came early at our house! I try to save some of my blogger perks for big occasions like birthdays or Christmas, but when I got the chance to try two games on our Nintendo 3DS, I couldn’t wait or save them! I was just as excited as my daughter to download Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Tomodachi Life and start playing!

I downloaded the games while she was at school because I wanted the chance to play. I knew once she got her hands on the Nintendo 3DS I wouldn’t get it back for a while. I had a lot of fun playing both games. We used to have an older version of Animal Crossing on the Nintendo Game Cube (uh oh, does that date me?) and it was one of my favorite games so I couldn’t wait to get the new Animal Crossing: New Leaf and see the improvements.

Both games are simulation type games where you are living life in their respective communities.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf

Animal Crossing: New Leaf is rated E and can be played with 1-4 players.

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf you move to a community and become the mayor. You need to build a house, build relationships with the other animals living in the community and participate in fun events. My favorite event is the fishing contest that happens every once in a while. My daughter loves to collect things to sell or to place in the museum. She is trying really hard to get every fossil, bug and fish for the museum. She recently upgraded her house so now she also has to pay off that loan. Needless to say she will be busy and having tons of fun!

The game progresses in real time so you get to experience night and day. All of the seasons change in the town. Right now it’s snowing in “Momville”, which is what we named our town. New residents move in and out so there are always new people to meet and interact with.

Tomodachi Life

Personalize-Mii-Tomodachi
I prefer Tomodachi Life and I think it is catered to a little bit older crowd, though the recommendation is for kids 7+. In Tomodachi Life you are building a community. After naming your city, you then begin to create Mii’s to move into an apartment building. As you reach milestones different building and activities open up within your city. There are shops, an amusement park, restaurants, a beach, a concert hall, a park, a tower and more. The people in the city begin to build relationships with each other that mimic real life. They fall in love and get in fights. I think since this game is so close to real life and that is why it isn’t as appealing to my daughter. She loves the pretend play and playing with animals in Animal Crossing.

The fun part, according to my daughter, is the mini games you play within Tomodachi Life. When the islanders get bored they want to play games and she loves the games. There is a fun variety of games like matching, guess the pixelated picture, guess the zoomed in picture, card games and more.

Interview

I asked my daughter to have a little interview with me about the games and her favorite parts.

Since you get a 9 year olds recommendation, what are you waiting for? These games can be downloaded at the Nintendo eShop so there is still time to purchase them as a gift for your kids for Christmas. They are fun and completely innocent and wholesome. They are safe to give your kids and you won’t have to keep checking in to make sure it’s clean. The storyline  is clean and the games are fun. She might be a tad obsessed…
