Making Your Florida Road Trip a Reality

December 21, 2016 By Stefanie

Florida is a beautiful state known for its warm weather, sandy beaches and diverse culture. For those who live in a colder climate, it can be the perfect destination for those looking to escape the cold and snow. However, there is truly never a bad time to visit Disney World or take in a Jacksonville Jaguars game. What are some ways in which you can make your dream road trip a reality?

Look for Vacation Packages

If you are planning to drive to Florida, you won’t need to book a flight or rent a car while you are in town. However, local hotels may offer package deals that give you access to local tourist locations or offer other discounts when you book a room. These discounts may free up enough money to help you extend your vacation, spend more on souvenirs or see sites that you may not have had on your itinerary previously.

Plan Your Vacation Six Months or More in Advance

The earlier that you plan out your vacation, the easier it is to have a good time while staying within your budget. For instance, you may be able to book a hotel during a slow time of the year or during a slow time of the week, which may keep costs down or allow you to book a fancier room without going broke.

When you plan in advance, it gives you an opportunity to learn more about what may be taking place during your stay. If you don’t like large crowds, you may not want to book a hotel on the beach where college kids stay for spring break. If you like baseball, you may want to book your trip during late March when baseball teams hold training camps in the state.

Another advantage to planning your trip as early as possible is that it gives you more time to save up for it. Instead of worrying that your last paycheck may not clear in time to cover the cost of your vacation, you can put a little money away each week until you reach your target. However, if you do need money in a hurry, you may be able to take advantage of car title loans or other short-term loan products.

Can You Get Time Off From Work?

You should make sure that you can get enough time off from work to make your trip worth taking. Depending on how far away you live from the state, you could be facing a drive of up to 24 hours or more. The last thing that you would want to do is spend all that time driving to your hotel only to have to come back a day or two later. Ideally, you should plan on spending at least a week or maybe longer to truly enjoy everything that Florida has to offer.

Inspect Your Car Before You Leave

Before you go on any long road trip, you should have your car inspected to ensure it can handle the miles that you are about to put on it. An inspection should check to make sure that the brakes work properly, that the electrical systems work properly and that your belts and hoses are working properly. A fluid flush or tire rotation may also be worthwhile before you go on your road trip.
If you are looking to go fishing, get a nice tan or enjoy cuisine that may not be available in your local area, you should get to Florida as soon as possible. Affordable travel packages may be available that can help you enjoy your stay without spending too much money.

Planning 6 months in advance is key when Disney is on the itinerary to Florida. Booking hard to get restaurant reservations can be done 6 months in advance.
