Maker Faire Kansas City at Union Station

I had never heard of Maker Faire before I got my tickets, but once I started researching it, I found out that it is a BIG deal and they happen in major cities around the world (Maker Faire Rome is coming up, how cool is that?!)! Maker Faire Kansas City was held at Union Station, which you can tell from a lot of recent posts that we love that place!

Maker Faire: Kansas City celebrates things people create themselves — from new technology and electronic gizmos to urban farming and “slow-made” foods to homemade clothes, quilts and sculptures. This family-friendly event demonstrates what and how people are inventing, making and creating. It brings together Makers, Crafters, Inventors, Hackers, Scientists and Artists for a faire full of fun and inspiration. Come see what others are making and be inspired to tap into your own creativity!

My best way to describe what it was like walking around Maker Faire Kansas City is that it was like a craft fair and tech show combined into one huge variety faire! We saw booths selling jewelry, shirts, yarn, treats, clocks, wooden toys and other homemade, handcrafted things. There were also booths showing off robots, 3D printers, inventions, and other creations. It really was a hodgepodge of unique and interesting things.IF

The faire was throughout all of Union Station including inside Science City. I was very fun to go back into Science City so soon after we had been there to check out the fun exhibits there. We were able to watch some amazing acrobatics in Science City. There were also some kid friendly booths so my kids got to make sand art, control a robot, play in a cardboard castle, write on the floor with chalk and even got a cool text watch that will share messages when bumped together! My kids saw the balloon animals and HAD to get in line. This lady was amazing, and she had even made a TARDIS (Note: my husband told me what this was, I had no idea!)

My favorite part of Maker Faire was the Coke and Mentos show put on by Eepybird.com. Here is a video of their fun act. My camera died right as they were starting so I wasn’t able to get a video of their actual performance.
