LeapTV Gets Kids Active

November 15, 2014 By Stefanie

I’m participating in a “Leap into Gaming” party from Mom Select. I received a free Leap TV for the party and to review. All opinions are my own.

What if I told you your kids could play video games, learn and be active all at the same time? Would you believe me? Well, guess what? They can! With LeapFrog’s LeapTV video gaming system your kids can learn, reinforce things they already know and be active.

I was chosen to participate in a “Leap Into Gaming” party from Mom Select in which they sent a LeapTV and two games for me to try out with my kids and their friends. One evening I invited my kids friends to come hang out at our house. I set out some health(ish) snacks – string cheese, yogurt tubes and apple juice and set out the games.

Everyone gathered around the TV to set up their players and to learn how to play. I love that some of the games allowed 4 children to play at once. Some of the games are even played by using a camera showing the kids on the TV and they have to move around to tap letters or words to play the game. It was really active.

After a little while of having a dance party that created words and where they learned about compound words, we moved on to sports. Bowling was the first sport of choice. I assumed they would just be playing a game of bowling but tricky LeapFrog snuck in education. To “charge” the ball you have to complete a math problem. If you get it right then you get a power up lightening ball which is stronger and can hit the pins harder. If you get the problem wrong you get a regular ball without the extra power. The kids had so much fun helping each other solve the math problems and watching each other bowl.

They were kind of a routy bunch so I had them sit quietly so I could get this video of my daughter bowling.

I really liked that there were games that were themed to lots of different children’s interests. The boys at the party really liked the skateboarding game. It was fun yet challenging for them. The girls loved playing with different pets, changing their colors, decorating their homes and having them play with different toys.

The LeapTV is geared towards kids ages 3-8 though I had a couple 9 year olds at my party who still really enjoyed playing. I found that with the kids that came to the party who don’t play a lot of video games the LeapTV was perfect for them. The games are easy to figure out and they had fun.

If you are searching for fun and educational toys for your kids, the LeapTV game system should be considered. It’s geared towards young kids, the remote control seem very sturdy and has an arm wrist to attach it just to be safe, there are over 100 games to choose from so you can be specific if you want to focus on certain topics or skills, the games auto adjust to fit your child’s skill level so it grows with you child and most of all it is a lot of fun. The LeapTV retails for $149.99 but you can also purchase a bundle package with different games to choose from.
