My Family and I were privileged enough to attend the Kansas City LDS Temple Open House this past week! We are so excited to have this temple so close to where we live! It is such a blessing this area! Look how beautiful it is!
Right now until April 28, 2012 the LDS temple in Kansas City is open to the public to take a tour. You can make reservations for your tour online. They like to have a head count so they can keep the tours to a manageable size and have enough refreshments afterwards for everyone. I would encourage you to attend if you live anywhere near the area. It is a great experience to see inside the temple and learn more about temples.
As a member of the Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-Day Saints we believe that families can be together for eternity, not just in this life. In temples we are sealed (or bound together) for eternity. We also perform this work for our ancestors that have passed on so they may also enjoy an eternal family. Since we believe in eternal beings, we believe that after you die your spirit still lives on. Since you have a spirit still capable of making decisions, when this work is performs for our ancestors they have the ability to accept it or deny it. Nothing is forced on anyone. I’m grateful to have the knowledge of eternal families and that I will be able to live with my family forever!
