Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Starlight Theatre

Last night I had the pleasure of returning to Starlight Theatre in Kansas City to enjoy Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Now, I am already a huge fan of this show. I own the VHS (that is what goes in a VCR, which they don’t make or sell anymore, for all you young kids out there! lol) of the original Broadway cast doing the show. Donny Osmand is Joseph in the version I have so it’s hard for anyone to live up to that (swoon!).

The show last night was amazing. It featured Diana DeGarmo as the Narrator – you might remember her from American Idol. When I saw her on the program I freaked out to my friend who I took with me. It was so fun to see her again. She has a gorgeous voice and played the part so well. Starring alongside her is her new husband Ace Young, in the role of Joseph.

This show is very family friendly (minus the Potiphar’s wife part). It features fun music from many different styles. As a musician it appealed me because there would be such a fun variety of music to play. As an audience member I really enjoyed how much fun it made the musical.

One thing about Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is that it is only singing, song after song. There is no talking. I think this would make it even more enjoyable for children. The actors all did a great job of pronouncing their words, because it could be hard to follow a story that is only music, but it wasn’t at all. I could understand everything they said (though I almost have the whole thing memorized). My friend that I brought along had never seen it before, and she was able to follow along as well.

Starlight Theatre is a the perfect place for a fun family night out or a girls night out. The quality of productions are amazing! The venue is beautiful. I look forward to attending Starlight Theatre’s Broadway series every year. As a reminder here is the schedule for Starlight Theater:

You can still buy tickets to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat through July 13. You can also purchase tickets for The Sound of Music and Blue Man Group. All of the shows promise a fun night of entertainment!
