I’m Going to Discover Boating this Summer

May 22, 2015 By Stefanie

This story has been sponsored by Discover Boating but all opinions are my own.

There are two types of people. Boat people, and non-boat people. Boat people tend to have grown up with a boat, own a boat or married into a boating family. They know about different kinds of boats, they know the rules on the water and are experienced in water sports. Non-boating people have limited experience with boats. Luckily there are awesome resources for non-boaters to Discover Boating.

I am a non-boat person. I’ve been out on a boat only a handful of times in my life doing different things from playing in Hawaii, to whale watching. Now cruises, that’s a different story. I’m very proficient when it comes to cruising and cruise ships. I’m interested in boating and going out on boats more often, but not very knowledgeable. Discover Boating is a fantastic resource to help you shop for a boat, renting options, educational resources and more.

This summer I’m preparing for a boating outing. My family is heading to the Oregon coast for a family reunion. We’ve been there many times, as this used to be a yearly tradition, but this time we are trying some new activities. One of those activities is going to be going out on a boat. We are going to do some deep sea fishing. I was a tad nervous as first about wanting to go. I tend to get sea sick, but the more I think about it the more excited I get and am looking forward to it. This will be completely new for me so I need to do some reading and learn some things before I go.

Living in Missouri there are plenty of opportunities to go out on a boat. There seem to be lakes all around us. Every summer my husband and I talk about renting a pontoon boat for several hours and going out on the lake with the kids, but it hasn’t happened yet. Maybe this is our year!

I have done some looking around on the Discover Boating site. My favorite part of the website is the Good Run video. What a sweet story.

Are you a boat person or a non-boat person? Do you have fond boating memories? I’d love to hear your favorite boating stories in the comments below.

I am a boat person, as long as there is no chance I’ll end up in the water!!

I discovered boating early in my life…but, haven’t been back on a boat in about 20-25 years!!! I get motion sickness very easy now…I don’t know why it didn’t affect me then, but I would love to try sailing again!!!

When I was five years old, I was in a neighbor’s boat in the middle of the lake, and it sank. I wasn’t scared at the time, but just thinking about getting on a boat makes me queasy! I haven’t been on one since.

I think I’m a non-boat person. The first time I was on a boat was 2 summers ago with my boyfriend. He took me fishing. I constantly feel unsafe on a boat even with life jacket on. Maybe because I can’t swim.

I would love to re-discover boating!!! But, I get motion sickness so easily that, even on a car-carrier ship, I feel nauseous!!! I used to be pretty good on sailboats, so hopefully I still am!!!

I love being on the water and have since I was a child. I love the weekends spent with family and friends on the lake.

The many activities involved in sailing, like pulling and hoisting of sails to maneuver a boat or a yacht, adds to your muscle strength for your shoulders and back. Boating can also improve your cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of hypertension, obesity and other heart illness.
