Ice Cream Bread Recipe and Results

July 11, 2013 By Stefanie

IF

Have you seen the ice cream bread recipe going around Facebook? Well I did and I NEEDED to try it. Of course I didn’t believe it because half the stuff on Pinterest is a lie, so that would mean 3/4 of the stuff on Facebook is a lie because it isn’t near as classy as Pinterest (do you like my logic?) Anyways, I headed to the store to get a yummy ice cream to turn into bread (seams like a waste of ice cream, no?) I also needed some self rising flour as it is a NECESSITY for the bread to turn out correctly.

IF

I came home with some Toffee Crunch ice cream and self rising flour. I thought the chocolate bits, caramel swirls and toffee chunks would be yummy inside the bread. The recipe calls for

  • 2 cups ice cream; softened (full fat works the best)IF
  • 1 1/2 cups self rising flour (you can make you own self rising flour by using 1 cup flour, 1 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt NOTE: you will need to double that in order to get enough self rising flour for this recipe, also different recipe sites have different proportions to make your own self rising flour)
  • Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes in greased loaf pan

IF

The dough was very stiff so smooth it out in the pan so you don’t have jagged pieces that hurt to bite into.

IFThe Results

Bread FAIL! It was so gross! While it turned out good and looked pretty, the bread tasted disgusting! It tasted very salty which I blame on the self rising flour. After searching the web for ice cream bread recipes I found one that also included 1 tsp sugar to the ingredient list. I would DEFINITELY add this! In the end it was a waste of ice cream, but it needed to be tried and tested. Now you know!

Are you still going to try to make ice cream bread? What flavor ice cream do you think would work the best?

Hmmm, I think I’d go w/ butter pecan. Good to know it failed. At least now when I MUST try it, I won’t feel so bad! Thanks for sacrificing yourself lol.
