How to Set Ground Rules for the Car

February 18, 2016 By Stefanie

Ground-Rules-Car

Most parents don’t have some sort of set rules for their vehicle. However, as your kids get older, you’ll probably be spending more time in the car than before. You’ll be taking them from soccer practice to other events and your car will become your second home. When it comes to setting rules for the car, here are some ways to go around it.

  • Agree on the rules: Rules are always put into place better if everyone has a say in what they are. Have a family meeting and ask your family what they think should be “the set of rules.” Of course, the parents have the final say, but it’s always nice to ask the opinion of your kids.
  • Nothing dangerous in the vehicle: Kids love to carry the craziest items with them in the vehicle. Let it be known that there will be a short list of what items the kids can bring with them in the car. This helps to eliminate messes in the car and keeps everyone safer. For example: the family might agree that only one stuffed animal is allowed in the car per ride.
  • Let your kids know why there are rules in the car: Sometimes it feels as though riding in a vehicle isn’t taken seriously enough. Some kids will throw items, throw fits, and just completely misbehave. It’s always nice when children know why there are rules in a vehicle and it’s to keep everyone safe. While in the vehicle, it’s always nice to be on your best behavior for the safety of everyone involved.
  • Be consistent about the rules you do set: When it comes to setting ground rules for the car, it’s important to be consistent. You can’t be mad at one child for breaking the rules and then blow it off when another child does. It’s important to be consistent, no matter what type of parenting you’re doing.
  • Give rewards to those who do listen: Kids always listen and do better when their hard work is recognized. By giving rewards to those who listen, it’s so nice to see their responses. And you will notice that they try even harder next time. If your kids have several car rides where their behavior was on point, make sure you point out this good behavior.

When a new vehicle enters your family that is a great time to introduce the new rules for that car as well. If you are shopping for a vehicle try Central Avenue.

Of course, being a good role model while in your vehicle is always a plus for your kids. They see you keeping your eyes on the road, not yelling, and following the rules, they are also more likely to do the same.

Do you have any tips for setting ground rules in the car?

It could get chaotic without the rules, so this is wise.
Take it easy and enjoy your weekend.

Making of a schedule of any task or work always gives you the best result and in case of a car, it will surely help you a lot in each aspect like from its small part to the seat belt. If you make a turn by turn servicing and repairing it will keep your car smooth running. I have to say you describe it very well.Luxury car rental Orlando
