Summer has unlimited possibilities. It can be the most boring couple of months for your children or it can be the best, most exciting months of your children’s lives. I look forward to summer because I know that I am going to be providing my children with unique experiences that will help them learn, grow and become more well-rounded. The key is to find the right summer camp(s) for your children to attend.

The trick to making your child’s camp experience successful is to really know them. What are their likes, dislikes, talents, interests, fears? What things will help them succeed? What things will make them feel like they have failed?  I believe that the best summer camp option should include things your child is already good at with a mix of activities that will stretch and challenge your child. It is a careful balance.

When I plan the summer camps for my children I take into an account experiences they haven’t had but that I want them to have. My kids have done gymnastic camp, music camp and swimming camp. They haven’t ever been to an outdoor camp and I want that experience for them so I’m doing my research.

Vista Camps (there is a camp for boys and one for girls) in Ingram, Texas is a good example of a well-rounded camp that is appropriate for children ages 6-16. They have 1 week, 2 week and 4 week terms for girls and boys. Vista Camps are all-inclusive meaning all food, supplies, snacks, everything is included in the cost to attend.  The cost for 1-week is $1500, 2-weeks is $2550, and 4-weeks is $4150.

Vista Camps provide an amazing list of activities for the children to participate in. This is beneficial when choosing a camp for your kids because this is where you can see how appropriate the camp is for your children. A camp that has activities your kids are interested in is good, but one that offers both familiar activities and new activities will be a great way for your kids to learn and gain new skills. Take a look at the amazing experiences Vista Camps offer.

I love that Vista Camps is very well-rounded. Children with all sorts of interests, backgrounds and hobbies will surely find something they love here. I love that Vista Camps provides opportunities to try new things. My kids are very well-practiced in music and crafts but have never tried water sports or any of the outdoor activities listed. I can feel confident that my kids will have fun with familiar activities and learn new skills.

One thing my parents taught me is that it is important for children to spend time away from their parents. That is a skill that needs to be learned. In order for children to grow and succeed they need to have some independence and figure things out on their own. When I was 13 my parents sent me on a trip across the country by myself to visit a friend for a week. Flying alone was terrifying. Getting stuck in an airport because of a huge storm was very scary but I grew. I learned that I could make good decisions without my parents. I learned that I could help myself. I want my children to go off to college and be able to take care of themselves. Learning those skills starts now while they are young. Practicing being away from home while still being at a safe, fun place is a great way to start. Vista Camps is a great way to start.

If Vista Camps sound like something you are interested in or want to learn more about please visit their website and take a look around. They are very considerate of your children knowing that first time campers may feel nervous about staying for very long. They will work with you and your kids to make sure you pick the best session and the best length of time for your child. Their goal is to provide a safe, wholesome, fun-filled, learning camp experience to every boy and girl. To see more pictures of other campers experiences, visit the Vista Camps Facebook page.
