High Flying Fun with Disney PLANES #DisneyPlanePremiere

August 9, 2013 By Stefanie

Disclaimer: Disney provided an all expense paid trip for me to attend the Disney Planes Premiere. All experiences and opinions are my own. Yours may differ.

Once I checked my camera at the door from being at the Landing Zone pre-party, I took my seat in the infamous El Capitan Theatre. The energy in the room was electric. The premiere was in 3D so I put on my glasses and anxiously waited for Disney’s PLANES. Because of all the hard work everyone put into the making of this film there was applause and cheers when it started and throughout the film.

Disney’s PLANES itself is very cute and has a nice story line. I love a good underdog story! Dusty, a crop duster, loves racing and always dreamed of being in the big race-around-the-world. He works hard and trains with his friend Chug, the fuel truck. Dusty eventually recruits Skipper, a war veteran, to help train him. The big day arrives for the qualifying race and Dusty does great, but doesn’t quite make it into the big race. Through an unfortunately event for another racer, Dusty ends up being a contender in the race. The rest of the movie is all about this amazing race around the world and the challenges Dusty has to face, including his fear of heights and bullies.

Throughout the movie there are several characters that’ll stir a variety of emotions. Some you love, some you hate and some you might even flip flop on. I think that El Chupacabra, played by Carlos Alzraqui, gets the most laughs throughout the film, he is hilarious after all. Dottie, played by Teri Hatcher, is Dusty’s loyal friend and master mechanic. She has some hilarious scenes as well. I was partial to Rochelle because I love Julia Louis-Dreyfus. There is a funny little flying car named Franz. As well as many other funny, mean, silly and serious characters to get to know and love.

It was so amazing to have watched this film with the people that created it. What an honor it was to be with them and their families and share in that moment of firsts. It was fun to be able to clap and cheer for them and with them!

The movie was very cute. I think my son will enjoy it, especially with his El Chupacabra toy plane in hand. The scenery of the movie was beautiful. As the race moved from country to country it was just lovely. The animators did a fantastic job capturing the beauty of the places they were visiting.

I went the an advanced screening too, my first one being on the press list! I thought it was ok. They did make good use out of the 3d this time, but I was hoping for more in the way of scenery. They could have done a better job, the scenery in Oz and Brave was better. I liked the character but wished they would of deviated from Cars copycat personas and a little less of the exact story of Cars.
I wrote a review as well and would love if you checked out!

Now that your kids have probably had a chance to see it, what do they think? I wish we had money to go to the theater, but that’s just not happening right now. We’ll probably buy it on blu-ray, though!

My daughter liked it, my son was disappointed. Skipper was his favorite character and so some of the plot didn’t quite go his way! lol

Thanks for doing this review. I honestly didn’t like cars all that much and wondered about this one.

That’s interesting that you didn’t like Cars. I actually liked Cars more than this movie. Maybe you’ll prefer this once since we are opposites! lol

I like Dusty and all the other characters and Dusty being the underdog really tries hard! I hope he wins in this movie, and I can not wait to see it!

I wasn’t sure about seeing this movie but your review makes me want to! It sounds like this is a keeper and one I will purchase. I like it when you can get behind the characters and have someone to root for. It’s good for kids to see that determination pays off!

I’m a big fan of both Teri Hatcher and Julia Louis-Dreyfus-who I watched on “Day by Day”, when it aired-so I’m really looking forward to seeing this movie!

I would expect a character name El Chupacabra to get a lot of laughs the kids would think his name alone is silly sounding.

I can’t imagine watching a movie WITH the people involved in creating it! I would be nervous that someone might ask me questions afterwards! I really loved Cars so I was excited when I heard about Planes. We haven’t been able to get to the theater but will probably get Planes on DVD

We just watched this today. Since my son is on the Autism Spectrum, we usually wait until movies have been out for a while, and the theater is more empty. I liked the movie, but I felt that Cars was a better movie.

Looks like a super fun movie. I was a little concerned about it just being the same as Cars, but with airplanes, but it does sound like it is fairly different. Movies can be so expensive, I’ll probably wait to rent it with my daughter when it comes out on DVD.

Personally I really liked Cars, but Cars 2, not so much. I really have no idea how I will feel about this one, so we will most likely wait for it to hit the redbox before seeing it. Thank you for the review, it is always very helpful to hear someone else’s opinion 🙂

How exciting to watch it with the creators! I have to say I am not as excited to see it as I had hoped to me nor are the kids because of the difficult names, but we will still give it a chance.
