If you have a child that likes Princesses, they might be interested in these Fairy Tale High Dolls. These dolls are the modern teenage version of the princesses we know and love. Before they met Princes and fell in love, they girls were going to school at Fairy Tale High which is a school for performing arts. The princesses included are:
- Snow White – Who goes by ‘Snow’
- Rapunzel – Who goes by ‘Gigi’, that stands for Golden Girl.
- Belle – Who goes by ‘B’.
- Sleeping Beauty
- Little Mermaid – Who goes by ‘M’
- Alice in Wonderland – Who goes by ‘Ali’
- Tinker Bell – Who goes by ‘Tink’
- Cinderella – Who goes by ‘Cindy’
Each of the dolls has a corresponding eBook you can find on the Fairy Tale High site. There are also a couple webisodes to watch.
When I heard of the dolls I thought it was a cute idea and knew my daughter would love them. She loves to play pretend and so having these princess friends would spark some great imaginative play. The concept of knowing the princesses as teenagers is very clever and had great potential, but I should have looked closer at the actual dolls before deciding they were cute.
These dolls are recommended for ages 3+. Perhaps they are safe enough for a 3 year old to play with (meaning they won’t choke on parts) but what they are teaching children is a different story. I decided my daughter wasn’t even old enough to play with these dolls. They are a little too “teenage” for my 7 year old. The way they are dressed, the excessive makeup and the stories going on with the girls is a bit old for my 7 year old, in my opinion. The Princesses we love are wholesome and good. They didn’t become that way from dressing like this when they were teenagers. Because of the way we teach our kids and the standards we set in our home I knew that when my daughter saw the girls she would even agree with me. When she pulled them out of the box and saw them she put them back down and said “I probably should wait to play with these for a little while, huh?” This is the way we do things at our house. You might think these are perfectly fine for your children ages 3+ and that is fine for your household, but for us, these are not appropriate and won’t be making it into our Princess tub.
These dolls sell for $17.99 each and are available nation wide at Toys R Us, in select Walmart stores and available online at Amazon.com, ToysRUs.com, Target.com and soon Kmart.com and Walmart.com.
