You and your partner are both huge sports fans. In the fall, you’re glued to your television for college football on Saturday and the NFL on Sunday. In the winter, it’s all about the NCAA, March Madness, and the NBA.
Come summer, hardly a night goes by when you’re not watching a baseball game in your living room or on the outdoor television.
You go to games whenever you can because it’s one of your biggest passions.
But now you’re got a new passion on the way: a new baby!
So how can you combine your passion for sports with building up excitement for your upcoming arrival?
Here, we’ll give you some fun and unique ideas.
Decorating the Baby’s Room
With both yours and your partner’s sports-fanatic genes running through your new baby, the chances are that they’ll end up being huge sports fans themselves.
Why not build up excitement by decorating the nursery in a sports theme, with posters, jerseys, and memorabilia? Sure, it might not be the most traditional way to decorate the nursery. But since when is traditional always the best way? And seeing as sports are gender-specific, you can start the process even before you know the gender of your coming arrival.
Start Buying (Way Too Early) Sports Equipment
Sure, it might be a couple of years before your baby will be old enough to start swinging a big plastic bat at an oversized plastic ball. But that doesn’t mean you can’t start shopping for–and buying–the sports equipment that they’ll fall in love with as they begin to grow.
And no child is too young to enjoy pushing around (or even cuddling with) a stuffed basketball or football.
How about a small basketball hoop they can use in the house to show off their slam dunk skills once they start standing on their own two feet?
Shopping for and buying kids’ sports equipment while you’re still expecting might sound silly to some. But to you and your partner, it helps build even more excitement about your soon-to-arrive bundle of love.
Consider Names of Your Favorite Sports Stars
Did you ever see that episode of Seinfeld where George Costanza tells an expecting couple that, if he ever had a child, he would name it “7” after the number of his favorite baseball player, Mickey Mantle?
While he thought the idea too silly for anyone else to take seriously, the couple tried to steal the idea from him and name their new baby girl “7.”
This didn’t go over well with George.
While you probably won’t be too keen to name your new baby a literal number, it can still be fun to start considering what names of your favorite stars might fit your new child.
And it doesn’t have to be their first name, either. If you’re not 100% sold on naming your new baby boy “Kobe,” you could always consider using it as a middle name.
Want to get even more adventurous? Use your favorite star’s full name by giving your child two middle names. While “Jim LeBron James Johnson” might not sound the best, if you got creative, you might come up with something magical.
Plan a Sports-Related Gender Reveal Celebration
When your new baby’s gender is known, and you’re ready to announce it to all of your friends and family, how about throwing a gender reveal party that’s sports-related?
You could host a friends and family softball outing at a local park and have a gender reveal baseball that the winning team gets presented with.
Or you could do a basketball gender reveal while getting friends and family together to watch an important college game or the NBA Finals.
No matter what you decide, a sports-related gender reveal celebration will fit your lifestyle and be a lot of fun for everybody you know and love.
It’s An Exciting Time In Your Life!
There are no more significant joys in life than welcoming a new baby into your family. Whether you’re a first-time parent or a seasoned professional, there is nothing more exciting in life than adding a new member of your family.
While you await his or her arrival, build as much excitement as possible with these sports-related ideas.

I’m not really a sports person but I really liked your ideas on the sports theme. My husband would have loved it , but due to this pandemic, it was just not possible to get everyone to celebrate a gender reveal party, but if there’s an opportunity some years from now, i’ll definitely look into this. Thank you!
