As I was thinking about my family’s last road trip of the summer I was trying to come up with ways that everyone could have fun in the car. It seems most of the travel games I have require some level of reading, but my toddler can’t read. A moment of genius struck and I came up with this DIY Road Trip I Spy Game using Twizzler Bites as the “markers” in the game. It’s a snack and a game in one. BONUS!

Twizzler-Display
I headed to Walmart to gather Cherry Twizzler Bites for my game and may have thrown in a bag of Strawberry Twizzlers and Strawberry Lemonade Filled Twists into my cart. I found a Twizzler display right when I walked into my store but they also have all the selections back in the candy aisle as well. You will also need a craft organizer for each child and sticker paper.

To make this fun road trip game all you need are craft organizers, this printable of the pictures printed on sticker paper, and Twizzler Bites. Twizzler Bites are the best candy to use as the markers because they are small and they don’t melt. If you stop for restroom breaks or to visit attractions, just close up the game and leave it in the car. The lid will make sure everything stays in place and the candy will be ready to go when you hit the road again.

To assemble simply cut the pictures to the correct size that fit in your craft organizer. Peel off the back of the sticker and stick each picture where you want it. Fill an empty compartment in the craft organizer with Twizzler Bites and you are ready to road trip!

There are several different ways to play this I Spy game and your kids can probably make up a lot of other ways. We’ve done it a couple of ways:

  1. Try to get a “black out” where each square is filled, then you can eat the Twizzler Bites and begin again.
  2. Place a Twizzler Bite for each object you see for your whole trip. Then when you get to your destination you’ll be able to see how many cars you saw, how many airplanes you saw, how many birds you saw, etc.
  3. For quick games try to get bingos of 5 across or 3 diagonal.

While the kids are having fun in the back you can enjoy all the other awesome flavors Twizzlers has to offer. My favorites are Strawberry Twizzlers and the Strawberry Lemonade Filled Twists.

For more road trip activities you can get my activity book of travel games on amazon.

What are you favorite flavors of Twizzlers? Where will they take you this summer?

This is such a fun idea! My kids would love it and I love that you thought of placing it in the craft container to make sure it wasn’t messy and can be continued–brilliant! ~ client

Oh, this sounds fun. Anything with liquorice sounds fun. Road trips are great but sitting in a car all day can be hard, even for adults. A prepared mom is a happy mom.

Twizzlers cherry are super addictive. Every once in a while I would buy a bag and sit and munch on them while working. I would tell myself it was okay to eat them all because they were fat free…..ha….ha…

Looking back to a few years ago we used to do the I spy game all the time while we were travelling, whether it was a short or long distance travel we still played. We didn’t have the printouts at that time we just made it a fun little game to do so they were not so bored. I love the printables that you have come up with. I think I will use them on our next road trip!

I am in love with this clever idea! This DIY Road Trip I Spy Game is PERFECT for long (or short) road trips! I use these containers for snacking on road trips and turning it into a game is a great idea! Of course you can’t go wrong when candy is involved 🙂

Fun, a way to keep the Kiddies happy and candy! I think this is the perfect game! Great idea and I love how they are actually learning a bit as they play and as I eat the candy… 🙂

That’s a great idea! I know how hard it can be to keep kids entertained most especially when it’s a looooong road trip. I’ll be sharing this with my sister-in-law. It would really help!

Need more than 2 players for this game. The more the merrier. A suitable game for kids in a long road trip.
