Disney’s Peter Pan: Return to Neverland Review

Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of Return to Neverland for review purposes. All experiences and opinions are my own. Yours may differ.

A few years ago we received Peter Pan on DVD as a gift. I was excited to get it because I hadn’t ever seen Peter Pan (commence gasping- how could I have possibly gone into adulthood without having seen that movie? I have no idea) Anyway, it is so cute! I loved it and my kids loved it (although I must say there are some things in there that you could not get away with putting in movies these days!) So when I got the opportunity to review Return to Neverland I jumped on the chance! We love to have family movie night, so once again we gathered on the couch for some family bonding over a new movie!

Wendy’s very practical and no-nonsense daughter, Jane, begins the adventure of a lifetime when the infamous Captain Hook whisks her away to the enchanted island of Never Land. It’s up to Peter Pan, Tinker Bell and the Lost Boys to help Jane believe in faith, trust and pixie dust. With the first-ever Lost Girl at his side, will Peter Pan finally defeat Hook and his swashbuckling band of pirates?

I love how this movie includes Wendy and her stories of Peter Pan being passed on to her kids. I love the family focus of the whole movie. It is so sweet! This movie is great because it welcomes a new generation to Neverland while enjoying the original characters we all love like Captain Hook, Mr. Smee and the crew, Tinker Bell, and the Lost Boys. It also introduces us to some new characters we grow to love like Wendy’s daughter Jane and son Danny, and the silly Octopus out to get Captain Hook. With Wendy and her brothers there wasn’t a struggle to be in Neverland. They enjoyed it while they were there but realized it was time to go home because they had to grow up. In Return to Neverland it is almost the opposite. Jane has taken it upon herself to “grow up” too quickly and so she doesn’t enjoy the childishness and innocence of Neverland. Through a series of events her barriers begin to break down and she can enjoy her time in Neverland.

This darling film is now available on Blu-Ray combo pack. Also, Return to Neverland is included in the big Disney movie prize pack giveaway going on now through Sept. 6!
