Disney’s McFarland, USA

November 12, 2014 By Stefanie

I love feel good, inspirational movies and Disney is really good at making those types of movies. Up next in the line up of this genre of movies is Disney’s McFarland, USA.

Based on the 1987 true story, “McFarland, USA” follows novice runners from McFarland, an economically challenged town in California’s farm-rich Central Valley, as they give their all to build a cross-country team under the direction of Coach Jim White (Kevin Costner), a newcomer to their predominantly Latino high school. Coach White and the McFarland students have a lot to learn about each other but when White starts to realize the boys’ exceptional running ability, things begin to change. Soon something beyond their physical gifts becomes apparent—the power of family relationships, their unwavering commitment to one another and their incredible work ethic. With grit and determination, the unlikely band of runners eventually overcomes the odds to forge not only a championship cross-country team but an enduring legacy as well. Along the way, Coach White realizes that his family finally found a place to call home and both he and his team achieve their own kind of American dream.

I love movies like this. It is so good to see a good story especially for people who may be living in similar situations. I will add this to my must see list even if that means catching it on dvd. I’m not big on the theatre.

This looks like an awesome movie. My husband and I love watching movies together, but we don’t get a lot of time to go out and actually see a movie. But this looks like a great inspirational feel good movie. I would love to see this.

I don’t know this movie, but it sounds great! I also love inspirational movies, books, magazines, blogs…I love to feel that I’ve felt something and was able to connect with the emotions and lives of the characters or writers. I feel that we all have something to share and can all learn from each other, be it a fictional or nonfictional movie, book or blog. This one sounds like something I need to check out!

Haven’t heard of this, but I’m always fast forwarding through commercials, lol. I’m always up for a good Kevin Costner movie though. Seems like a heartwarming movie for the entire family. I may see if the kids are up to seeing this one.

I love feel good and motivational movies but add a sports theme to it and that is just a bonus. I love Kevin Costner so happy he has another movie out.

Wow, Kevin Costner has been coming out with a lot of movies lately! I briefly heard of this movie, but didn’t know the real background until I read your post. I saw the tail-end of the trailer the other day, when he was speaking to one of the kid’s father and assumed that he did not speak English…that was kinda amusing.
