We’ve all been there when we have important exams looming, or a project deadline coming up and the panic starts to set in. Chances are your children will experience this feeling at some point throughout their education, and it really isn’t pleasant. Seeing your children stressed out and anxious about something you can’t really help with is an awful feeling; you’d give anything to take that exam for them if it meant they wouldn’t be so stressed out. Whilst children need the space to learn and … [Read more...]

Dallas
Last week I was a little MIA! W decided to take a fun little vacation to Dallas as a last trip before school starts! Our main reason for going was this:I have been craving it lately and Texas is the closest place to get it so we went for the weekend! We had a lot of fun!I did a little research before we went at a couple activities we could do while we were there. The option that looked like it would best fit our family was the Dallas World Aquarium. It was VERY expensive, but very … [Read more...]
Boy’s Toys for the Girls
As modern parents we try endlessly to breakdown gender stereotyping for kids, don’t we? Leading toy designer and manufacturer LEGO is all for that as well, it seems. Once a byword in the boy’s toys department, LEGO has finally introduced a range for girls; but how successfully are the brick based beauty parlours at challenging these roles? Some commentators have suggested that LEGO’s friends range don’t challenge much at all and only reinforce the traditional roles. The Friends range is set … [Read more...]

Blame it on the heat! It’s been well over 100F lately; today it was 106F! We’ve spent many a day lounging about and reading books this summer. My oldest daughter got her very own Library Card this week and she sure does feel like big stuff! Tips for a Family Garden
Many people associate gardens only with a place to sit when the weather's good. But there can be a lot more to it than this. It's the perfect setting to bond with your family and a great space to encourage your children to grow. It can also be a sanctuary and a grown up space that you and your friends can enjoy. It might seem that these two uses don't mix, but they can. Set aside some space for child friendly toys and activities, such as ball games or a sandpit. Keeping this … [Read more...]
Watermelon!
It's amazing how a silly cousin and an episode of Curious George can get a girl's imagination running... It all started when my crazy nephew threw a watermelon on Grandma's patio. My 6 year old daughter grabbed up some of the watermelon seeds and with the help of her memories of Curious George, proceeded to make her own greenhouse (out of a paper plate, paper towel, water and ziplock bag) in which the seeds would sprout.A week later, they sprouted and we carefully planted them in … [Read more...]

We love July 4th!
I hope your Independence Day was as AWESOME as ours! We had a pretty big gathering with my Mom and Dad, 11 Kids and 21 Grandkids, along with a couple of family friends. We started off the morning by attending our church's annual flag raising ceremony by our local boy scouts (very patriotic) and pancake breakfast. From there, we went to the zoo! Woot! This has become somewhat of a tradition over the last 7 years. By the time we left, we were all hot, sweaty (it was only 103F that day…) and … [Read more...]

This picture is out at my Brother-in-Law's land. We all took our guns and shot at targets and bottles. I did better than I thought I would! Check out how cool I am!! Woot! Creating an Outdoor Study Space for Children
Unfortunately there is no “one size fits all” when it comes to the different ways children study and learn. What works for one child doesn’t always work for another, and it’s important to understand what works best for your child. The stereotypical scene of a child staring a computer screen with a pile of books is not necessarily what’s best to aid learning. But sometimes it’s not the techniques that need changing, but the setting where your child is studying. This is especially true in the … [Read more...]
Fun at the Lake!
One of our favorite places this summer has been the lake. We go out and swim, barbeque and eat watermelon! We’ve gone with my sister and her kids and we’ve gone with Grandma and Grandpa. Their Uncle has also taken them a couple of times with their cousins. We like to go during the week when it isn’t crowded and we have the beach to ourselves. We also have our pick of grills and picnic tables. At our favorite lake, … [Read more...]
