A Baby Monitor for Big Kids

August 18, 2016 By Stefanie

This blog post is brought to you by VTech and The Motherhood. All opinions are my own.

In my experience three year olds are basically tiny ninjas. They are capable of silently making huge messes and darting from place to place without being seen. The only time a three year old isn’t a ninja is during a game of Hide-and-Seek when they are supposed to be silent. Beyond that, it’s incredible how slippery they are. This is why the VTech Safe&Sound® DM271-110 DECT 6.0 Digital Audio Baby Monitor with Open/Closed & Motion Sensors makes an awesome baby monitor for big kids.

Not just your typical “listen in” baby monitor, the VTech Digital Audio Monitor has some really cool features that are super helpful for older kids, too.

Security Around the House

When I think of baby monitors I think of one unit in the baby’s room to monitor the sounds going on in that room and one in the parent room listening. This VTech Digital Audio Monitor breaks the chains of just being in one room. This monitor includes an open/closed sensor (and the ability to connect up to 20 sensors!) to be placed where ever you need to monitor. Place then on exterior doors, the baby room door, windows, drawers, even on cupboards where cleaning products or other dangerous items are kept. You can monitor what goes on throughout your house with this amazing system. When a door with a sensor opens, there is an alert on the parent unit of the monitor to let you know.

Motion Sensor

Also included with the VTech Digital Audio Monitor is a motion sensor. Now when you tell your kids you have eyes in the back of your head you can mean it! Place the motion sensor in a room you would like monitored. Again, the parent unit will alert you to movements in that space.

Multi-Feature Baby Unit

The part of the VTech Digital Audio Monitor that gets left in baby’s room is very impressive with a whole set of features.

  • Temperature monitor – on this base there is a temperature sensor so that on the parent unit you can see what temperature it is in the room.
  • Talk back intercom system – how nice that finally a monitor isn’t one way. If you need to respond to anything going on in the room with the baby unit you can press “talk” on your parent unit and speak. The monitor acts similar to a walkie talkie with two way communication.
  • Secure digitized transmission means not only is the sound crisp and clear but you are the only one hearing it.
  • Glow on the ceiling night light – a cute picture of space projects on the ceiling. The picture gets bigger and smaller to capture the attention of the children watching. The base is magnetic making it easy to adjust the angle of the projection.

  • Lullaby – add some sweet lullabies to the night light show. The music and lights will stay on for 15 minutes once it is set.

Multi-Feature Parent Unit

  • With a range up to 1,000 feet and a clip on the back, take the parent unit everywhere you go.
  • Rechargeable battery
  • Vibrating sound alert
  • 5 level sound indicator
  • Two way communication with the baby unit by pressing “talk”

The parent unit is fantastic. It’s small enough to take where ever I go in the house. The back lit screen gives me all the information I need such as if there is motion detected, doors open, noise in the room with the baby unit, if the night light is on. It is the hub of information.

So far I’m loving the VTech Digital Audio Monitor. It really goes beyond a standard baby monitor (which is all I’ve ever had) and makes me feel a greater sense of peace about what is happening around my home. I love that I really do now have “eyes in the back of my head” the with open/closed seniors and motion sensor. This is a great baby monitor helping me with my older kids.

The VTech Digital Audio Monitor is available for $119.95 at vtechphones.com and amazon.com.
