Boy’s Toys for the Girls
As modern parents we try endlessly to breakdown gender stereotyping for kids, don’t we? Leading toy designer and manufacturer LEGO is all for that as well, it seems. Once a byword in the boy’s toys department, LEGO has finally introduced a range for girls; but how successfully are the brick based beauty parlours at challenging these roles? Some commentators have suggested that LEGO’s friends range don’t challenge much at all and only reinforce the traditional roles. The Friends range is set … [Read more...]
Summer Reading!
Blame it on the heat! It’s been well over 100F lately; today it was 106F! We’ve spent many a day lounging about and reading books this summer. My oldest daughter got her very own Library Card this week and she sure does feel like big stuff! It got me thinking of all the fun books we’ve read this summer and how I’d like to share some of them with you… (I’ve tried to look up what the reading label ages actually mean, but I can’t find very clear definitions…if any of you know, please speak … [Read more...]
Watermelon!
It's amazing how a silly cousin and an episode of Curious George can get a girl's imagination running... It all started when my crazy nephew threw a watermelon on Grandma's patio. My 6 year old daughter grabbed up some of the watermelon seeds and with the help of her memories of Curious George, proceeded to make her own greenhouse (out of a paper plate, paper towel, water and ziplock bag) in which the seeds would sprout.A week later, they sprouted and we carefully planted them in … [Read more...]

We love July 4th!
I hope your Independence Day was as AWESOME as ours! We had a pretty big gathering with my Mom and Dad, 11 Kids and 21 Grandkids, along with a couple of family friends. We started off the morning by attending our church's annual flag raising ceremony by our local boy scouts (very patriotic) and pancake breakfast. From there, we went to the zoo! Woot! This has become somewhat of a tradition over the last 7 years. By the time we left, we were all hot, sweaty (it was only 103F that day…) and … [Read more...]

For those of you who don't know, I have 7 brothers; five of which are/were military or law enforcement. So, what are the odds that we don't go shooting when we get together? This picture is out at my Brother-in-Law's land. We all took our guns and shot at targets and bottles. I did better than I thought I would! Check out how cool I am!! Woot! If you look close, you can see the shell casing in the air and the bottle shooting water. Thanks to my Sister-in-Law, Mady, for the awesome photography! … [Read more...]

Fun at the Lake!
One of our favorite places this summer has been the lake. We go out and swim, barbeque and eat watermelon! We’ve gone with my sister and her kids and we’ve gone with Grandma and Grandpa. Their Uncle has also taken them a couple of times with their cousins. We like to go during the week when it isn’t crowded and we have the beach to ourselves. We also have our pick of grills and picnic tables. At our favorite lake, … [Read more...]

Food Storage
Food storage has been a big topic of conversation lately. For our quarterly Relief Society Meeting, a sign-up sheet went around to make a dish from our food storage for everyone to taste test. I made a simple generic rice-a-roni dish, since it was quick, easy and from items I keep in my food storage. I didn’t know they would hand out awards, but my dish won the “Most Likely to Actually Make” award! Woot!My food storage is made up of foods that we eat regularly. In my cupboard, I have … [Read more...]

Homemade Doll Tutorial
My very first introduction to etsy was while I was watching Martha Stewart several years ago. I fell instantly in love with these super adorable dolls and set out to make one that very morning; I printed out the template and got to work.My sister saw the doll I made and decided to make one for our niece's first birthday.
