Adding Straps to a Swimming Suit

June 6, 2013 By Stefanie

I got this very cute swimming suit on super sale a few months ago. It is last year’s design at Lime Ricki and I loved it! I love the colors and the pattern and since it was such a great discount, I bought it! I didn’t (and don’t) love the single strap around my neck (it ties around my neck, it isn’t attached at the shoulders like it may appear in the picture). It doesn’t give me confidence that my suit is going to stay on my body when I go down a water slide, or play around with my kids in the water, so I decided to add some clear straps to the suit… can you see them in that picture?

I went to Walmart and bought some clear bra straps. Lucky for me there are bras out there with removable straps, so I bought some clear ones!IF

I tried on my swimming suit top and put safety pins in the suit where I wanted to sew on the clear straps. I got out some yellow thread to match the suit, though the goal was to sew it through the inside layer and not go through the second layer of material. I just hand stitched the straps into place. The whole process took about 10 minutes.IFNow I will feel a lot more comfortable wearing my suit, going down the water slides and frolicking (don’t you frolic in the pool too?) as much as I want! An easy and cheap (and temporary, if I want it to be) fix for my discounted swimming suit!

It looks so professional it’s hard to believe it’s that easy!

The same process could be used to connect the 2 pieces of a suit, too. This is a great way to help you feel more confident in the water. And, yes, I’ve seen more than one person lose either a top or a bottom while jumping or diving!
