Ever since college-bound Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) was a little monster, he has dreamed of becoming a Scarer—and he knows better than anyone that the best Scarers come from Monsters University (MU). But during his first semester at MU, Mike’s plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot James P. Sullivan, “Sulley” (voice of John Goodman), a natural-born Scarer. The pair’s out-of-control competitive spirit gets them both kicked out of the University’s elite Scare Program. To make matters worse, they realize they will have to work together, along with an odd bunch of misfit monsters, if they ever hope to make things right. “Monsters University” bravely explores themes of self-discovery and the revelations that come with growing up.
My kids are big fans of Monster’s, Inc so when Monsters University showed up on our doorstep they were very excited for a family movie night with the prequel. Monsters University begins with a young Mike Wazowski visiting Monsters Incorporated scare floor and discovering he wants to be a scarer when he grows up. From the time he is young nobody really notices him or thinks he will amount to much. Throughout the movie I am impressed with Mike’s big dreams and hard work to make it happen. Even when doors shut and his path gets changed he is determined to find a way. I love his enthusiasm and passion for becoming a scarer.
The movie was very cute and very funny. From a parenting view the movie is clean. Free from anything you wouldn’t want your kids to see. This makes it perfect for in the car when I can’t watch what they are watching or when they want to have movie time during the day. We all really enjoyed the movie and think it is a fun one to own!
To help celebrate the release on October 29 Sully visited Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. There the Dartmouth Film Award and Tribute to Pixar was presented to producer Kori Rae and director Dan Scanlon. While there he visited the Homecoming football game where the band played music from MU.
Start planning your Monsters University Halloween party now and plan on picking up the movie October 29.
