1. Go paperless.
Use old t-shirts as cleaning rags and replace paper towels. Simply cut the shirts into smaller squares and use as you would a paper towel. When done, toss in the wash and you can reuse the cloth as much as you want.
2. Donate them to animal shelters.
Animal shelters love using old t-shirts for animal bedding. They are soft and so easy to clean. Call your local animal shelter and see if they can use any of your old t-shirts. Then, launder them and bag them up for donation.
3. Make a headband.
Cut your t-shirt into long strips. Then, gather the strips into three piles. Tie the ends of the three groupings together then start braiding the strips. Once your braid is complete you can tie the two ends together. It makes the perfect, stretchy headband. If it is too big, just shorten the length of your strips with scissors.
4. Make a throw pillow.
If your old t-shirt has a cool graphic or saying on it, you can turn it into a throw pillow. Simple cut out a square shape around the picture or saying. Cut an additional square of the same size from the back of the shirt. You can then stitch up the sides, add batting, and close for the perfect one of a kind pillow.
5. Craft a pet toy.
Create a pet toy when you take a few strips of t-shirt and braid them, then tie the edges together. You can also take a large square of the shirt, fill it with cat nip, and then tie it closed with ribbon or a knot.
6. Paint it!
Give your old t-shirts to the kids along with a few bottles of fabric paint. They will love adding spots, speckles, wording and more. They can enjoy wearing it as a nightgown or just for play.
7. Make colorful bracelets.
Take various colored strips of t-shirt and braid them into bracelets. You can even thread on beads if you wish. Tie the ends into a knot and you are ready to wear them. Kids will love this craft!
