10 Alternative Uses for Jello

June 5, 2017 By Stefanie

10-Alternative-Jello
Do you love Jello? I love Jello too, but not just because it is fun to eat. Jello has many different uses that make it, even more, fun than you ever knew was possible. Here are 10 alternative uses for Jello!

#1 Use it on a Slip N’ Slide

Jello is wiggly and jiggly and super fun on a slip n’ slide. Make some fast setting Jello and pour it on your slip n’ slide for a day of slippery, jiggly fun!

#2 Make it into a Sensory Station

Jello has a wiggly texture like none other. Make a pack of quick setting Jello with some hidden treasures. Let your kids dig in with their fingers to find everything on their list.

#3 Dye Your Hair any Fruity Color

Because Jello is mad with food dyes, it can easily color your hair any vibrant color you want. Simply mix one packet of Jello with a ½ cup of hair conditioner. Make sure to get your whole hair wet with the dye and let it sit for an hour before rinsing.

#4 Make Edible Play Dough

Play Dough is great, but it is even better when it is edible. For a fun moldable, yet edible treat, mix the following ingredients in a large bowl:

  • 1 package of Jello
  • 1 cup of white flour
  • 2 tbsp of cream of tartar
  • 2 tbsp of cooking oil
  • 2 tbsp of salt

#5 Make Some Vivid Finger Paint

Jello makes amazingly bright and colorful finger paint for little artists. Simply mix a package of Jello with some boiling water. Let it cool and let your kids go to town on their artwork.

#6 Enjoy Some Colorful Bubble Fun

Who knew you could add a little color into your bubbles? Your kids will absolutely love blowing some colorful bubbles in the backyard. Here is what you need:

  • ¼ cup of dawn dish soap
  • 1 box of Jello for any color you like
  • 2 cups of warm water

Mix all your ingredients together. Get out a magic wand, and blow some colorful bubbles around your yard.

#7 Save Money Making your Own Lip Gloss

Buying lip gloss can get pricey when you need different colors to complement your outfits. Instead of spending extra money buying lip gloss, make your own juicy flavored lip gloss with Jello. You will need

  • A box of any flavor Jello
  • A microwave safe bowl
  • Petroleum Jelly heated up until it is a liquid

Mix all your ingredients together. Add some additional sparkles if you desire and let it cool for a half hour before you try it out!

#8 Make a Jello Pool

Why not make summer fun with some wiggly, jiggly fun between your fingers and toes? Make a sea of squishy blue Jello. Add some boats, balls, and pool noodles to the fun, and you have yourself a day full of fun!

#9 Color Eggs with Jello

You don’t have to wait until Easter to color eggs, you can do it now. Use a box of Jello and some water and put your hard boiled eggs in for 15 minutes. If you want your color to be a little more vibrant, add a couple teaspoons of vinegar.

#10 Make your Cakes Colorful

It is always great to get a special cake on a special day. Make your cake’s special by adding a little color to them. You can choose any color you like and poor your box of Jello into the batter to make a fun, colorful cake.

Who remembers sucking jelly through their teeth to see who could make the squishiest sounds?

I loved the idea of edible play dough, however, I HIGHLY suggest you do NOT use that recipe as it is dangerous to eat raw flour! Flour can contain bacteria that cause disease, according to a warning from the U. S. Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

If you really want to continue with doing edible play dough, consider baking down the flour first by roasting it for a little in your oven so it can cook off any bacteria living on it. This is why it’s not advised to eat raw dough such as cookie dough. Never eat anything with raw flour that hasn’t been cooked. If you’ve eaten raw flour and haven’t gotten sick, awesome. Good for you. But I still wouldn’t risk making this kind of dough for kids to be playing with let alone eating.
