DIY BOO Kit

When my husband and I were in college we loved to do cutesy things like ding dong ditching our friends and leaving a treat on their porch. We would often do it around holidays. We would “Heart Attack” people for Valentine’s Day. “Egg” people for Easter (No real eggs were used in that fun). We would leave a plate of goodies at Christmas and for Halloween we would “BOO” our friends.

What is a “BOO kit”? It is a bag of treats with a note explaining they have been “BOO’d” and to pass it on (#BOOItForward)! It is meant to be a fun and tasty act of kindness that can snowball so that a lot of people feel loved. Now is the perfect time to begin your “BOO’ing” so that over the next couple of weeks until Halloween it can spread and as many people as possible can receive this tasty act of kindness.

How to make your own BOO kit

Walmart-Aisle-shopping
Making your own BOO kit is easy. I decided to make my BOO Kit look like a ghost. If you would like to copy my kit, here’s what you need to do.  Head to Walmart where you will be able to get all the supplies in one stop. Things you will need to pick up:

  • White paper bags
  • Favorite candy of your choice (I used Chocolate Mix Fun Size and Wrigley Monster Stash 315ct)
  • 8 oz Halloween cans of 7UP®, A&W, Canada Dry or Sunkist® (these cute little Halloween cans have monsters on them and perfectly fit the theme of a Boo kit)
  • Glue
  • Print the “BOO” Card provided by MARS.
  • Printable Ghost faces – download, print and cut out to glue on your bags.

Once you have gathered all your supplies, making the ghost bags are easy. You can print and cut out the faces I have provided, use them as a guide to draw on the faces or let your kids create whatever kind of ghosts they want!

We are going to BOO my children’s friends. We made a list of some friends they would like to surprise with these tasty BOO kits. Assembly is easy. Take into account how many people will be enjoying the goodies inside and plan accordingly. We wanted every person to have a little soda can and several pieces of candy. Stuff the ghost bags with all the candy and soda you need and be sure to print the BOO card. This how to get the MARS BOO card. Visit the MARS site and:

  1. Cut out this “We’ve been BOO’d sign.
  2. Fold the “You’ve been BOO’d” greeting card (page 2) and tape openings together.
  3. Include the card and sign when gifting BOO bundles.

We decided that to BOO our friends we would leave the kit on the porch, ring the doorbell and run! We wanted these little gifts to be anonymous (though the blog post may give us away).

A have a few girlfriends that do this in their local neighborhood, but I believe something alcoholic often gets put into the bag 🙂 Its a lovely idea and Im sure really fun to get such a nice surprise on your doorstep. You found plenty of fun supplies to include. Do you think your friends will know you left them? and importantly, do you think you will get any goodies in return?

This is such a cute idea! When we lived in our previous house, the neighborhood used to do this, and I thought it was so much fun. Since last Halloween, we’ve moved out to the country and don’t have any neighbors, so we don’t get a boo bag this year! :/

those are the cutest boo kits I’ve ever seen! I love the faces (the ones with the big lips are my favorite). I bet your neighbors were so excited to get these. I get flowers and vegetables on my porch from my neighbor and I get excited. So they had to be happy to receive this!

These look so cute! I actually have never been in a neighborhood that does this, but now I really want to make one. Maybe even at least for friends or family just in time for the Halloween season. Thanks for the tip!

Booing your neighbors is so much fun. You listed some great ideas and printables. Our neighbors used to do this but nobody did it this year! There is still time! I need to get on this!

This post is so cool! I have never really heard of a BOO kit but I am glad you took the time to explain what it is and how to make one. How interesting that my nickname is actually ‘Boo’ so I do not know if I will call it a Boo Kit (if I ever decide to make one), but what the heck! It is Halloween after all! 🙂

What an adorable idea! I just recently moved to my neighborhood so this would be such a fun way to get to know them! I also love that the kids can be part of it by decorating the bags! I think I have enough time to make some for my closest neighbors – the kids would get a kick out of it!

Ah! Thanks for this reminder…. we have not done a boo kit yet and I promised the kids we would do it – they are so much fun to give and then kids have to thing of someone else to boo! They just love it!

this is a great idea! I want to do this for Halloween! I also think it would be awesome to do for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Especially if you pick someone who is less fortunate or in need. I love this! Thanks for sharing.

The Boo Kits are adorable! I love to spread holiday cheer; I never thought to do anything like this for Halloween before. I know for Christmas we love to make baked goodies for neighbors during the holidays.

I think this is such a cute idea. We usually have something like this that goes around our neighborhood every Halloween but we haven’t see it this year. Maybe I should be the one to start it! And I love those little soda cans. Maybe I will pick some of those up for my own kids! They would think they are so cool!

We’ve been “boo’d” in the past! It’s so fun! My kids loved doing it to another family!
