By Stefanie

March 23, 2013

Yes you read the title correctly. No we do NOT eat mice at our house! I’m about to introduce you to the most unique, quirky treat you have ever seen! Take a look at these two treats brought to by Snooty Weasel based in the UK.

These candies are a fun take on Chinese food. On the left is mushroom chow mein made with Cola whips, chocolate beans (similar to M&M’s) and foam (gummy) mushrooms. On the right is egg fried rice made from puffed rice, chocolate beans, gummy fried eggs and chocolate mice. Take a look at these cute little gummy eggs and chocolate mice.

My kids were hesitant to try the eggs and the mice at first. They didn’t believe it was candy, so I had my husband try it first. Once he showed them that they were treats, they were more than happy to start consuming!

These fun Snooty Weasel treats come in Chinese take out containers with chop sticks. These are the perfect snack for a fun movie night in with friends and family. They are a great conversation piece as well.

How do you feel about eating chocolate mice? Do you think you would want to try this?

Time to Make the Gingerbread House! Psych!

By Johanna

December 20, 2012

Every year at Christmas, we make a gingerbread house. This year, when I bought our kit, I was rushing. 2 weeks later, when I pulled it from the cabinet for the kids to work on it, I figured out it wasn’t gingerbread! It was chocolate! At first, I was disappointed, but really, it was SO much better! Sometimes the fact that I’m an airhead works out to my advantage!

So in this kit, it gives you the milk chocolate to melt and then you pour it into the molds to make the sides and roof. Then you melt white chocolate for the “glue”. That little house stayed together WAY better than any gingerbread house we’ve ever made! The kids LOVED it and we all ate too much sugar! It looks like we’ve got an new tradition!

Cute Thanksgiving Treat!

By Johanna

November 20, 2012

My preschooler and her classmates take turns bringing the snack to school. She just happened to be assigned the last day before Thanksgiving break, so we decided to make something festive. Now, normally we take something healthy- so don’t judge me!! I saw several versions of this treat, but decided the others were more intensive than necessary (drawing with icing, etc) and they all added more cookies and candy while using frosting as the “glue”.  I just can’t feed my kids that much sugar!! And I also can’t put that much work into something that is going to be eaten in a matter of seconds!

Here is my simplified version:

For each turkey, you will need:

1 Oreo cookie- double stuffed

4 whole candy corn

1 small peanut butter cup (Reece’s miniatures- NOT minis!)

1 candy corn tip (in your bag of candy corn, there will be a million pieces that are broken- no need to cut the candy corn!)

2 nerds

1 piece of orange slice- I used Brach’s Mandarin Orange Slices (I’ll show you how I cut them) or something else shaped like a wattle

Nutella or peanut butter for the “glue”.

Start by making the tail feathers- stick the candy corn into the Oreo cookie. (The other recipes have you opening the Oreo, adding icing and tons of candy corn before putting the cookie back together- too sugary and too much work!)

Then, add a glob of Nutella (or peanut butter) to the top side of the peanut butter cup to make his head. Squish it onto the Oreo. I put mine toward the lower side of the cookie, but it really doesn’t matter!

Next, put a little dab of your glue toward the top of his face and pop 2 nerds onto for his eyes.

You can make the wattle using orange slices if you cut it into the sections that are already there, and then cut them in half  horizontally so they are not so tall- each orange slice candy should give you 10 wattles.

Next, glue on the candy corn tip for his beak, and the orange slice for his wattle.

So cute and super easy! My girls did this project with my nephews and they all had such a great time! Perfect little project for little hands!!

Twinkle Bean Lollipops Review and Giveaway

By Stefanie

November 16, 2012

I love fall because it means all things pumpkiny! I love the smells and the flavors of Autumn! One of those fun flavors is a pumpkin pie lollipop! Super fun huh?! This lollipop is a perfect fall treat.  This lollipop is courtesy of Twinkle Bean Lollipops, a very cute etsy store. It comes in a cute heart shape and some cute packaging. I was thinking about how fun it would be to have one of these at each place setting for Thanksgiving.

Usually when I have products to review I am the one testing it, but this time my kids came gathering around as I was taking pictures of the lollipops. My 3 year old kept saying “can I eat it now?” So I took one lick and then let my kids have at it! My son loved it so much he couldn’t just lick it, he started biting it and eating it up. My daughter was more willing to have it last and ate it the traditional way.

Check out some of these other cute treats she offers in her store. I can’t believe how creative and adorable these lollipops are!
